Crafting-kind of!

I am excited today, because I've been crafting. I found these really cool pics on the website, pinterest, one is a way to display Ms. Bailey's art work from school, and the other is a way for me to display family photos above our bed.

I will post pictures soon, but just thought I would update a quick blog. I love being crafty.

Ladies Night-Oh What a Night!

Right off the bat, I need to let you all know that I am playing around with my blog "design" which means that I-me (the girl with no computer language skills) is trying to figure it out. Also, I'm using photo bucket to edit my pics and resize them, so please, forgive the craziness.

The other week we had a girls night. Let me start this by stating that I love Bailey, I love my Ryan, and all of the wonderful joys that those two bring to my life, however, it is great to have girlfriends. You know the ones that you can call in a pickle, or call to tell them the funny thing that my kid did, or the funny thing that Ryan didn't do. And they laugh with you, or cry with you (which for the record, I don't think has happened yet). Girls night is the time for me to recharge. I can turn off my mom & wife batteries and just relax. After these nights of me time, I can honestly say, I am a little better at the mom/wife thing. It could be that I learned some cool new parenting trick from the other mama's or I learned some new relationship tidbit, either way, I'm better.

These girls are great! They are younger than me by a couple of years, and so when I turn 30 in April I know they will make fun of me but they will also celebrate with me. We all met through dance so our families go waaaayyyyy back. Ashley, Anne, and Sheena started girls night, and so I was delighted when I got an invite to join them. Ashley and Anne used to be roomies in college-so you can imagine some of the stories. Sheena is a teacher so I look to her for advice on teaching. They are the same age I think, Here's the run-down:

Ashley is the oldest sister to Katie and Sarah. She is dating this cute boy, they will be celebrating their one year mark this summer. Usually Katie is with us, but she had a busy day at work, and we were excited that Sarah came. Sarah is a newlywed and lives in northern MO.

Sheena is a new Mommy to a little cutie named Tanner. She is the practical one that keeps us all in line. Her husband is a pilot-how cool is that-seriously!
Photobucket

Anne is my hair girl! And she is the first of us to become a mom, and this is still crazy to me, but she is having another baby. Her son Hunter is a couple months older than Bailey, and they have so much fun playing together. We are all excited to find out what she is having again. I think boy, but I know now that I wrote this she will have a girl. (I'm still trying to convince her to put Kendra somewhere in the name)

Ok, now that you know all of us-we tried a new restaurant and food this night. We ate Indian food. Which I have to be honest with you, was NOT good. I will never eat there again. I even got a rewards card when I paid-Ha Ha Ha! You order the food like you do at Chipotle-kinda weird. I think we all enjoyed the first bite, and then each bite after that got yuckier and yuckier. So, we did what any girls would do...we headed next door to Houlihan's for drinks!

Houlihan's was nice because we sat on the patio, and right before we left it started to rain-it was beautiful. I enjoy these nights because I laugh so hard my cheeks hurt. And you know what is so great is that we all bring something different to the table. We each specialize in something different and we all embrace those differences to learn something new from each other. Every girl needs-girls.

Next time we get together, I will bring my camera again, but only for one picture-a group pic. We have to have one of us all together so that in 30 years we can laugh at how beautiful we were.

When She Grows Up...

I often wonder what Bailey will be when she grows up. I work hard to make sure that each day is an adventure for her. Maybe, I shouldn't try so hard to expose her to new things. It is hard for me to stay home and do nothing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy relaxing and watching a movie, but Bailey isn't there yet, she's always busy doing. It honestly makes me crazy when she doesn't pay attention to the movie because then she misses the key moment that makes the movie awesome!

Anyway, back to what I was saying-I try to introduce her to at least one new thing a day, and if I can't come up with something, then I make sure we do something fun that I know she enjoys-well at least the last time we did it. But it often makes me wonder about what she will do when she grows up. I am so close to being finished with my degree in Special Education, and starting that new chapter in my career book, and I have enjoyed teaching dance. I love each of these careers, and I hope that Ryan and I are setting a good example for her to learn to follow her dreams. He loves teaching.

Maybe she will be one of those annoying people that is constantly on their phone (I know, many of you are thinking just like her mom) that travels all over the country.

Or a teacher like her parents. Hey-it could happen!

She loves sweets, and being my assistant in the kitchen, so perhaps, she'll be a chef, or a baker! Come get a delicious cupcake from Bailey's Bakery. Or maybe she'll deliver her goodies in a truck.

She loves music and dancing. Maybe she'll be a groupie, and follow an artist around like a hippie.

Bailey could work construction. I wouldn't want to be the guy standing next to her while she's operating the shovel, but she could learn how to do it without hitting someone.
Photobucket

The girl has tons of clothes-seriously! Grandma has a shopping problem. She could be a fashion model and earn a living wearing the top designers. You better Work!!

She also is loving and caring, so she could be a doctor or a nurse. Ha! She would have to go to school forever, and it would be expensive to pay for, but she would be excellent!
Photobucket

Bailey will be one of these previous mentioned things, or something else that she chooses to be that makes her happy, AND she will be the President of the USA. How cool is that dream-honestly though, I would be proud of her, but I would be worried on a whole new level if she was the Pres. But I would get a tour of the White House!

Which ever career path she chooses, I know I will be proud of her, and I will be one of those old ladies that is talking about how great my child is at what she does. But right now, she is the best at what she does, and that is just being a kid.

She's a great kid and I get to call her mine...even when she's all grown up!

BFF's 4EVAH

We had a play-date a couple weeks ago with Morgan. Jennifer was busy helping her dad at a garage sale, and I thought it would be fun if we got them together. Bailey "loves" Morgan! She was so excited to get together with her. They always have way too much fun!

Morgan was excited to come over too. I always let them jump on my bed-and this time Bailey could actually jump. I think Morgan liked that. These two are going to be friends for life-you see, Morgan's mom, Jennifer, is my BFF, so it will be fun to watch their relationship grow. Morgan is almost a year older than Bailey, so she does a lot of things first and faster. But this time they really played well together-the age difference wasn't so obvious.

They really are funny to listen to. Bailey is wild and crazy like me, and Morgan is pretty cautious like Jennifer. However, Bailey can talk Morgan into doing some crazy things. Jennifer and I are worried about what kinds of trouble they will get into. We NEVER got into trouble. HA!! It's also pretty funny that their names are Morgan & Bailey-two very delicious drinks if I do say so myself.

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Well, a great many and wonderful things have/has happened since I last posted (blogged)! So here it goes:
My mom turned 50, FIFTY!! (It is really fun to type that number in all caps!) And on her actual b-day we enjoyed a blizzard, check out all the snow! Seriously, I had no idea that we could get so much snow in one day. I made my mom's birthday cake-which tasted delish, but was actually a huge disaster in the making. I, dropped an entire layer of the cake, splat, onto the kitchen floor. I will admit that I cried, and threw a huge hissy fit in front of Bailey when it happened. I am an excellent role model for her!

Anyway, the party was a complete surprise for my mom-she even brought pigs-in-a-blanket for the "game night" we were supposed to have! Ha!

We got all dressed up and went out to eat for my mom's 5oth FIFTIETH birthday at the Marina Grog and Galley. My brother ate a crab leg from the latest season of the Deadliest Catch, and I still do NOT care for sea food. I did have the most amazing chocolate cake. Did I mention no babies were allowed at this dinner?!! Oh, we all had fun and ate way too much food.

We also celebrated my nephew's 1st birthday, and we ate more cake!

Snow Days!!

We have had 5 snow days, I think in the last two weeks, and they are predicting more snow for Sunday. I really hope we don't have anymore snow days this year. On the snow days, Ryan is home from school, and we have been sending Bailey to daycare. Ryan and I have been hanging out playing games, and cleaning which is always fun! And Bailey, has been having fun at school. We pick her up right after her nap and then we do something fun as a family. Well, with all the snow, we've been going sledding, which Bailey loves. My parents have the perfect Bailey size hill in their backyard for her to enjoy. She giggles all the way down the hill! It is quite honestly the most beautiful sound in the world!

Last night, we hung out at my parents house after sledding, and my brother informed me of the adult size sled my dad uses for hunting. So you can imagine what happened next-yes folks-my brother and I went sledding! It was a blast, even my mom went down the hill.

Here are a few pics from our snow days:

Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011

Well, it's out with the old, and in with the new! 2010 was a crazy year, I am always sad to see the year end, but the new year is here, and I must make the most of it. I am creating our family 2011 calendar, and while going through the pictures from 2010, I noticed three things:

one-I am getting old, I will be 29 this year (my final year as a twenty something!!) (those !! are not excited ones) I do not want to turn 30 at all-I'm just getting older, trying to get wiser. When I think of myself in my head, I'm still 18-21! Super sexy and young-but in reality, I'm old, and I have wrinkles. I keep trying to tell myself those wrinkles are from laughing and smiling so much in my 28 years on this earth, but those pictures I look at scream OLD BALLS! I will just have to rock 29+ still sexy, but older!

Two-Bailey has grown sooooo much this year, she went from a baby to a toddler to a teenager all within 365 days. Seriously though, she is like this amazing little person that I get to call mine. She is super happy unless she's not getting her way, and she is simply the best!

Three-there sure is a lot of love going on here at the Burke house! Ryan and I both try our hardest (even though we may not both always be there) to make sure Bailey knows how much we love her. We also try super hard to expose her to new and exciting adventures in her little life. She loves the zoo, Paradise Park, a park, swimming, the lake, etc. But she also loves all the people in her life. And we are so lucky to get to be witnesses to the love they share for her. I wish I could bottle up all that love and sell it-everyone needs to experience it!

I have two huge goals for 2011 that I AM going to accomplish. The first is that I will graduate in December with my degree in Special Education-how cool is that! Second, I will run in a marathon (wich I will blog about seperately). Who knows what else 2011 will bring to me and my family...a wise person once told me that I just have to make sure that I'm not selfish with my time, but that I make the most of my time and that I share it in a positive and meaningful way. I want people to think about the interactions they have with others and reflect on whether or not that interaction was positive, or did you just take someone's precious time that they will NEVER be able to get back and suck the pleasure and joy out of it! Don't be the dementor in life, but do suck the good stuff out!!

Happy New Year!
